Anti-DNC Landmarks in Denver
January 28th, 2008 | by Crash the Conventions |Last week Recreate ‘68, Unconventional Denver, and other local groups held a regional consulta in Denver to plan some of the logistics of the protests against the Democratic National Convention in August. The 70 or so activists played ice-breaker games, organized subcommittees, and held some action planning meetings.
As a part of the conference, the organizers took people on a walking tour of some points of interest in Denver, CO. The tour included:
- The Pepsi Center, the primary venue for the DNC (map) (street view) (venue website)
- Civic Center Park, a public park near the Pepsi Center (map) (street view) (city’s website)
- Denver’s Police HQ (map) (street view)
- Hyatt Regency Hotel, where a majority of the delegates will be staying during the convention (map) (street view) (hotel website)
- The State Capitol Building (map) (street view)
In related news: the Denver Westword published pretty funny account of the consulta, entitled “Anarchists Stalk Democratic Convention”. The title makes the midday stroll sound more like it happened in the dead of night with cloaks covering faces and daggers drawn.
Word on the street is that Unconventional Denver will be releasing a proposal for the focus of the demonstrations in the coming days. Here’s the most recent dispatch from their newsletter:
Many people are eagerly waiting to hear what came of the consulta held last weekend in Denver. Well, after two days worth of meetings we were able to work, rework and tinker plans until we came up with something that should satisfy the many different ideas, hopes and desires present at the consulta that weekend. Unconventional Denver will be wordsmithing that proposal and sending it out in a clear, inspirational form to be distributed wildly in the coming week or two.
