RNC Welcoming Committee Clarifies what happened at the Canadian Border
February 10th, 2008 | by Crash the Conventions |A week ago I posted a story about the RNC Welcoming Committee not being allowed to cross the Canadian border. Well, the RNC Welcoming Committee just posted a statement clarifying what happened at the border. In my haste to post something it turns out I made a couple mistakes.
Some important points:
- It was the Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF), not the Alcohol/Tobacco/Firearms Department (ATF) who detained them upon reentry to the United States.
- I may not have made it clear in my post, but they were not banned from Canada. They were simply denied entry.
Some interesting new info:
- The feds reviewed and copied all of their literature.
- The JTTF/FBI threatened the activists with “Felony Obstruction of a Federal Investigation” and suggested they might confiscate property.
- One member of the group was even held in a holding cell for around an hour.
